Scott wrote people are interested in both traditional and contemporary culture and are finding new ways to practice and preserve their cultural heritage. One way includes the use of computerized and digital multimedia technologies (as cited in Galla, 2009, p. 167). Aloha mai kākou! This website is my final project for ETEC 612 Introduction to e-learning with Dr. Mike Menchaca - Summer 2013. This website focuses on a topic or issue related to distance education. Therefore, I wanted to focus on Indigenous e-learning. The results of this project is to briefly inform about learning Indigenous language and culture through online/distance education.
Indigenous education is a subfield that revitalizes, maintains, and disseminates Indigenous knowledge, language, history, and culture within an educational institution. Education was the very tool used to assimilate Indigenous peoples into western formalities, which endangered Indigenous languages and cultures all over the world. It is the very tool used by Indigenous people's to re-educate themselves and regain their language and culture. Indigenous e-learning is relatively new, but have been around for decades. As technology rapidly increased over the years, Indigenous people have taken advantage of its use to better their social, culture, and economic conditions. In addition to developing an online environment, issues such as instructional design and cultural appropriateness are barriers to Indigenous e-learning. This websites briefly highlights several literature, guidelines, and Indigenous distance programs. |
